He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois M. Burke; three children, Charlene Scantlin of Kerrville, Howard Burke, Jr. of Sebastopol, California and Richard Burke of Coppell, Texas; four grandchildren, Karen Brandenburg of Sachse, Texas, Judy Newell of Ridgland, Mississippi, Alex Burke and Griffin Burke both of Sebastopol California; and eight great grandchildren.
Howard served in the U.S. military from 1936 to 1962. Service included 50 combat missions from North Africa as a Turret Gunner in a B-17 and service as a Flight Engineer for Air Evac during the Korean War. He retired as a Maintenance Officer with the Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB, Nevada. He held many different positions after his retirement with his last employer being L & H Packing of San Antonio
