Howard Blaine Henry, age 91, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on May 18, 1933, in Lonoke, Arkansas, to Claudia Mae Howard and Dexter Blaine Henry. Howard, known as Blaine by many, was a 1952 graduate of William Adams High School in Alice, Texas, where he was an exceptional athlete and, as a result, earned a football and track scholarship to Howard Payne University. Howard joined the US Army in 1953 and proudly served our country until 1956. On May 26th, 1955, Howard married Clarice Hastings of Heppner, Oregon. For nearly 70 years, they lived a beautiful love story envied by many and appreciated by all.
Howard was a lifelong outdoorsman and musician. He loved fishing, playing guitar and writing songs and poetry, hunting, and particularly golf; however, his greatest love was his family. He spent hours looking at photos and watching videos of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Only his love of the Lord matched his love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Sergeant Major Billie Dean Henry. Howard is survived by his wife, Clarice Henry; daughter, Joyce and Steve Logan; son, Howard Blaine Henry, Jr. “Hank” and Carol Van Zandt Henry; grandchildren, Lauren Logan; Michelle (Henry) Darsey and Austin Darsey; Blaine and Hailey Henry; Ashley (Logan) and Joseph Herrin; great-grandchildren, Christopher Logan, Sage Darsey, and Georgia Darsey.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East. A Graveside Service will be held privately for the family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
