Born November 14, 1925 in Wetmore, Kansas. She was raised and loved by her parents James E. and Marsena Roderick and her brother Jim. She grew up during the depression and used this experience to live her life with tenacity and perseverance.
She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1947 and became a teacher. She taught music, art, English, drama and was the school librarian in Wetmore, Kansas. Later she moved to Salina, Kansas and taught English. She married Dr. David Lasley and together they blended their families and were the proud parents of four children. Christine M. Lasley-Wright (d.), William J. Lasley, John R. Lasley and David A. Lasley II, (d.) Ina and Dave spent 32 happy and adventurous years together traveling throughout Europe and America by bicycle in the 1960's and 70's. She was very active in charitable activities, medical auxiliary as well as community theater in Salina. She wrote and starred in numerous variety shows for charity expertly playing the part of Phyllis Diller.
In 1984 Ina and Dave retired and relocated to Boulder, Colorado, to be near their grown children. She enjoyed their new home near the mountains and spent much of her time caring for her beloved English Bulldogs Duke, Britches, Maggie, Hyacinth and English Setter named Trudy. They purchased a cabin in Allenspark, Colorado, and together with their children and grandchildren they spent many summers enjoying the outdoors and wildlife until Dave's passing in 1995.
In the fall 1999 she received a telephone call from her childhood sweetheart, Robert Wells. With a gleam in her eye she told her family she was going to lunch with an old friend from Wetmore. On May 5, 2000 Ina and Bob were married in a beautiful ceremony at her son and daughter-in-law's home in Louisville, Colorado.
Bob and Ina began traveling and enjoying family between his home in San Antonio, Texas and her home in Boulder, Colorado. They had a wonderful life filled with travel, family and dancing in the living room while eating grilled cheese sandwiches.
Ina was a strong woman who forged her own way out of necessity long before it became mainstream. She was smart, vivacious and never met a stranger. She had impeccable style always; her crisp white shirts, a cashmere sweater draped around her shoulders and Indian silver bracelets stacked on her wrists was her signature look. Her respect and admiration of the Episcopal church and her love of God truly made her a role model for all the generations of her family.
Ina's surviving family includes her husband Robert Wells of San Antonio, Texas, sons William J. "Spence" and daughter-in-law Anne Lasley, of Richardson, Texas. John R. "Rod" and daughter in law Kimberly Lasley of Erie, Colorado. Son in law Ashley Wright of Princeton, New Jersey. Stepchildren Jerry and Jan Gass of Blanco, Texas, Steven Wells of Spicewood, Texas, Cindy Wells of San Antonio, Texas.
Grandchildren Ashley Wright, Dr. Leslie Wright, Blair and Ryan Scalise, Kyle and Amber Gass, Brett and Kimberly Gass, Heidi and Miles Marburger, Jason and Valerie Martinez, and Josh Martinez.
Great Grandchildren Lilly Gass, Karl and Levi Gass, Waverly and Wilder Scalise, Michael Martinez, and soon to arrive Ryce Marburger.
Family and a few close friends gathered for a celebration of Ina's life this past Monday. It is possible that there will be a funeral service at St. Francis in the future; further details will be sent to the congregation if that happens.
