Ingrid M. Smith

Ingrid Marga Smith passed away on August 14, 2024 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 86. Ingrid was born on November 4, 1937 in Braunschweig, Germany to Otto and Margarete Lagershausen and was the youngest of their seven children. She met Thomas Smith, the love of her life, while he was stationed in Germany and they were married on October 3, 1960 in Helmstedt, Germany. Ingrid left her home in Germany to relocate to the states where she and her husband raised five wonderful children and eventually made San Antonio their permanent home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, infant son Thomas Smith, and her husband, Thomas E. Smith. She is survived by her loving children: Carola Layne (Gary), Margaret Bowman, Regina Matcek (Matthew Sr.), David Smith (Desislava), and Michael Smith; Grandchildren: Michelle Wallace (Justin), Shaun Layne, Dale Bowman (Courtney Kinter), Matthew Matcek Jr. (Destinee), Megan Matcek (Travis Almodovar), Taylor Matcek (Donovan Hammond), Melissa Smith, Elizabeth Hailey Smith; Great grandchildren: Ryan Wallace, Anya Wallace, Carter Bennett, Ada Bowman. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and family in Germany.

Ingrid found joy being outdoors in her garden, listening to country music, and dancing. She loved cooking for her family and having them visit with open arms and a full table. Ingrid was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
