

Irene Violet Vazquez, age 95 went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2014 in Bedford, TX. She was born the sixth of seven children in San Antonio, TX to Frederick & Esther Arredondo on August 9, 1919. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.
Irene graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1936 and Baptist Hospital Nursing School in 1967.
Irene was a long time member of Woodlawn Methodist Church where she was a member of the Wesley Class and Methodist Women. She and Nacho were charter members of University Methodist Church. Irene was an active member of The Views Bible Study and the Wesley Class. She worked for many years with the Taco Team, providing Sunday breakfasts for church goers. She worked with the Women's Ministries and the Caring Concerns Committee.
Irene was also an active member of the San Antonio Conservation Society, serving as a docent for the Steve's House and on numerous committees such as co-chairing the food committee for NIOSA and manning her own booth and coordinating volunteers for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ignacio (Nacho) Vazquez, her sons, Roger David and Gary Anthony.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Williams, son-in-law, Tom, son, Dr. Steven Vazquez, daughter-in-law, Sue Ann Vazquez and daughter-in-law, Jodie Vazquez. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Valerie Williams, Steven Williams, Amber Vazquez Bode and Robert Bode (husband), Amy Williams Heale and James Heale (husband), Andrea Vazquez, and Roger Vazquez and Tiffany Vazquez (wife). She is also is survived by seven great grandchildren, Haley Keogh, Bryan Heale, Zachary Heale, Hudson Bode, Hayes Bode and Christopher Heale and Holly Ramos.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home. The Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2015 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. The Memorial Service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at University Methodist Church, 5084 De Zavala Rd., San Antonio, TX 78249. Reception following the service at the church.
