

Irma Garcia Escobar passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 9, 2015. She was on her way to Mass and went to meet her Savior. She was born in San Diego, Texas on December 23, 1938 and was raised in the small farming community of Palito Blanco, Texas. She graduated from Ben Bolt - Palito Blanco High School, Ben Bolt, Texas and Durham Business College in San Antonio, Texas.
Irma married Armando Escobar on September 13, 1959 and traveled the world with him in the United States Air Force. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luis A. Garcia and Antonia Rodriguez Garcia, and her son Paul. Irma is survived by her husband Armando; daughter, Donna Escobar and her husband Mark Schnur of San Antonio; daughter, Diane and her husband David Allen and their children Dean, Dylan, and Darla of Bellaire; son, Marc and his daughters Emma and Marissa of San Antonio; sisters, Elva (Junie) Garcia of Palito Blanco, Carmela and her husband Manuel Garcia of Corpus Christi, Gracie and her husband Armando Barrera of Alice, State Senator Sylvia Garcia of Houston; brothers, Carlos and his wife Maria Garcia of Corpus Christi, Danny and his wife Pam Garcia of Cedar Park, Roque and his wife Jessie Garcia of Del Rio, Oscar and his wife Velma Garcia of Palito Blanco, Donnie and his wife Patsy Garcia of Corpus Christi; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A cancer survivor, Irma was active in the Church of the Holy Spirit Altar Society, St. Rose of Lima, Bunco Club and Birthday Club. Irma was retired from the Texas Department of Child Protective Services after more than 25 years of dedicated loyal service to our state and our most vulnerable children.
Irma enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, and tending to her plants. She lived life to its fullest, was a faithful servant to God, and loved her husband Mando, her children, grandchildren, and all her family from "el rancho".
Visitation will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N Loop 1604 East, San Antonio from 1:00-5:00 p.m on Sunday, August 16th. Rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, 8134 Blanco Rd, San Antonio.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at Church of the Holy Spirit on Monday, August 17th at 10:00 a.m., with a reception immediately following at the church banquet hall. Funeral procession will pass slowly by her home in Harmony Hills then proceed to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, for interment at 1:45p.m.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made in her name to the Church of the Holy Spirit or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
