Miss Isabel "Izzy" Thrse Bailey, age 5, started her life in Heaven on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. She was born to Sean & Samantha Bailey on March 31, 2017 in Philadelphia, PA. God's loving protection surrounded her during her blessed life and prepared her to trade in her earthly limitations for Heaven's freedom.
Izzys parents decided to give her the best shot at life when she was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome in utero. She was born naturally in the special delivery unit of Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia where she had her first open heart surgery at five days old. She was discharged home just 12 days later on her first Easter Sunday. She exceeded expectations and thrived through a second open heart surgery while the family lived in New Jersey. In August of 2018, the family moved to San Antonio, TX. She continued to grow and thrive, welcoming her little brother Thomas personally at his birth in August 2019.
Following a setback in April 2020, Izzy was flown to Childrens Medical Center Dallas where she was put on ECMO for a week before receiving two external Ventricular Assist Devices (Bi-VADs) to stabilize her heart function. She holds the world record for longest pediatric survivor on external Bi-VAD at two and a quarter years. While in the hospital in Dallas, Izzy enjoyed a miraculously beautiful life. She taught herself to read at age 3 in the ICU and she received her First Holy Communion at age 4. She enjoyed all things dealing with food, from preparation to learning about exotic dishes to trying new foods, and she told everyone that she didn't want to be a nurse but a mommy and a chef when she grew up. Izzy attended the birth of her baby sister Zoey via Skype in August 2021 and was so proud to become a big sister again. Her days were filled making happy memories with music therapy, going to the gym and riding her tricycle, making videos at the TV studio, picking flowers in the garden, visiting the library, and playing in the playroom. She enjoyed painting with her dad, telling stories with her mom, laughing and playing with her siblings, and spending quality family time together during movie nights, family dinners, and Sunday Mass in the chapel. She was well loved by nurses, doctors, therapists, and chaplains.
Isabel is survived by her loving parents, Sean & Samantha Bailey; siblings, Joseph, Rosemary, Paul, Alexander, Felix, Leo, Thomas, and Zoey; grandparents, Robert & Evelyn Bailey and Stephen & Juliette Barry; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and care team friends.
