Chavel served in the WWII Pacific Campaign and was later a member of the VFW Post 76 as well as the American Legion. The family gives thanks to Dr. Charles Briseno, the 19th floor nurses at the Nix Hospital and Vitas Hospice for their wonderful care.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Rene Carlos Soliz; three brothers and one sister.
Chavel is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Inez V. Perez; daughters: Alicia Weiss and husband, Perry, and Rebecca Ledesma; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters: Beatrice Villanueva and Henrietta Oyerviedes; and brother-in-law, Juan L. Valasquez and wife, Janie.
