Obituary for Mrs. Isabel Andrews Rodriguez Rawlins
In memory of Mrs. Isabel Andrews Rodriguez Rawlins who was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, the 20th of December 2022, when she passed away peacefully at Legend Oaks West Nursing Home. She was born on the 21st of September 1939 on the Southside of San Antonio, Texas by Mission San Jose and died at the age of 83.
Mrs. Isabel Andrews Rodriguez Rawlins, affectionately known as “Chavelita” by her aunts, uncles, and cousins, is preceded in death by her father, Louis Don Andrews, her mother, Isabel Morales Andrews, her great granddaughter, Nevaeh Marie Castro, her granddaughter, Krystal Ann Rodriguez, and her grandson, Ricardo Rodriguez, Cuevas, Jr.
She was a loving mother to five children: Mary Alice Sanchez (Sam), Joe Anthony Rodriguez (Gloria), Katherine Ruiz (Antonio), Barbara Ann Munoz (Joe Garcia), and Carmen Villa (Edward). She was a devoted grandmother to thirteen wonderful grandchildren, twenty-six precious great grandchildren, and two darling great, great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Two of her greatest contributions to life were her strong belief in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and the many hours of volunteer work she accomplished serving our Lord in various Catholic parishes (San Alphonso, Christ the King, and Little Flower Shrine). She held numerous positions to include Choir Member, Instructor for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program better known as RCIA, a Healing Ministry Member, and an ACTS Retreats Participant. She also worked as a Daycare Center Provider at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown San Antonio. Special verses are highlighted throughout her Bible, and several bookmarks identify her favorite chapters throughout. Two of her beloved Psalms are Psalm 91, Security Under God’s Protection and Psalm 92, A Hymn of Thanksgiving for God’s Fidelity.
Isabel loved her home, or “Mi Casita” as she called it, that she so proudly shared with all her children and grandchildren. It was her castle here on Earth, her safe zone, and her life. Embroidery was her preferred hobby. Her favorite color was red which is one of two iconic shades of her beloved Virgin Mary that signify Love, Passion, and Devotion which are all critical traits connected with Motherhood.
She also loved music from Western to Tejano to Salsa to Boleros. Two of her favorite singers were George Strait and Juan Gabriel. Another one of her passions was dancing. This led her with her closest friends and family to her favorite hangout, the Old Spanish Inn, a neighborhood establishment known for its stimulating Salsa and Merengue style of music in addition to a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Those were such special times for her which she enjoyed immensely.
Thank you, Mom, for sharing your love and experiences with all of us. We are truly grateful for the many life lessons you taught each of us. Your family and friends love you dearly. We will keep you in our hearts forever. God bless you, Mamita! Rest In Peace!
