

She met the love of her life and future husband, James I. Hegarty Jr. (Jim) on December 28, 1944, in a pea-soup fog in Wallasy, England. They were married on September 6, 1946, in Metz, France. Ivy became a resident of San Antonio in 1960 when Jim was stationed here by the U.S. Army.
After seeing Jim and both of her sons through college, Ivy earned a BA and a Master's degree, both with highest honors. She spent the next few years teaching at St. Philip's College and later became Chairman of the Reading Department. She loved to travel around the world with her husband. Their many travels took them to every continent except Antarctica.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Murial Fitzroy.
Ivy is survived by her husband, James I. Hegarty Jr.; sons, James I. Hegarty IV and Michael J. Hegarty; grandchildren, Jamie Elizabeth Schwettmann, and James I. Hegarty V and wife Eunsook Kim Hegarty; great-grandchild, Leah Kim Hegarty and two sisters, Winifred Morris and Edith Bolton.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
