

Colonel Burton was Past Commander KYCH of San Antonio Commandery #7, Knights Templar; Past District Deputy Grand Master, the Grand Lodge of Texas, A.F.& A.M. Past Master of Prospect Hill Lodge 1247 and affiliated Past Master of Community Lodge 1201 and Davy Crockett Lodge 1225; past Monarch of Omala Grotto; Past High Priest and Thrice Illustrious Master of Blue Bonnet Chapter and Council. Other groups in which he held membership include San Antonio Scottish Rite Bodies, Allied Masonic Degrees, Order of the Eastern Star, Red Cross of Constantine, and National Sojourners.
Colonel Burton was born on 31 December 1923, at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, the son of Jack and Ethel Burton. He is survived by his wife, Marie, whom he married on 1 May 1948 in Puerto Rico; son Jack E. Burton Jr.. granddaughter, Samantha M. Burton; grandson, Glenn Bexar Green, and wife Katy; and cousin, Marcia Ynman. A daughter, Ewing M. Burton, predeceased him.
The Rev. J. Knox Duncan, Past Grand Prelate, Knights Templar of Texas, will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, 7 May 2010, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough, San Antonio.
