

Jai was born in Seoul, Korea to Young Hwan Yang and Sook Ja Lee. He went to Yonsei Medical School in Seoul, Korea then continued his medical school education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He married Bang Ja Park on September 8, 1966, in Seoul, Korea. She graduated from Sook Myung Women’s University. Jai worked as the Chief of the Physical Medical and Rehabilitation Department of the Veterans Administration Hospital for 32 years, Colonel Senior Flight Surgeon and Medical Squadron Commander with the 184th Bomb Wing McConnell Air Force Base Kansas Air National Guard for 22 years and various roles as a professor at Wichita State University and Rochester School of Medicine for 19 years. He was a Gulf War veteran and was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal. In San Antonio, Texas he was actively involved and served as the 24th and 25th President of the Korean American Association of San Antonio from 2010-2014, Director of Habitat for Humanity, Project Manager for the Education and Scholarship Alliance for Asian Cultures and was an Elder at the First Presbyterian Korean Church. He received various certificates in his leadership roles and was proud to have lifetime membership to the following associations: Kansas Air National Guard, Association of Military Surgeons of United States, Military Officers Association of America, Korean War Veterans Association Inc. and Korean War Association Alamo Chapter 298.
Jai is survived by Bang Ja Yang, spouse, Dawn Moore, daughter and Timothy Yang, son, Andrew Moore, son in law and Meghan Bertani-Yang, daughter in law, and Benjamin Yang and Emily Yang, grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Yang, Benjamin Yang, Emily Yang, Andrew Moore, John Pair, Paul Cox, Dustin Recio, Do Soo Kim and Sang Eon Ha.
Visitation will be held on March 19, 2025, between 0830-0930 at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 0930 on March 19, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Jeong of the First Presbyterian Korean Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
