

He was born July 20, 1930, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Lester Eugene Carroll and Margaret Lillian Johnson.
Jim attended schools in Little Rock and Texarkana before graduating from high school as Senior Class President. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Science from the University of Central Arkansas in 1952. He continued his education studying at universities in Arkansas, Texas, and Pennsylvania completing 54 hours of graduate study in Mathematics and Finance.
He married Mary Ann Adams and they were later divorced. He married Anita L. (Wilcox) Coltrin on April 9, 1988, in Millwood, New York.
Jim spent many years working for IBM and Westinghouse. While at IBM he was assigned the NASA account as the country moved toward manned space flight. He was President of a software company and Vice President of another. Eventually, he opened his own mortgage banking business in New Canaan, Connecticut. He retired in 2001 and relocated to Texas.
Jim was a veteran, honoring his country by serving in the Army.
He was very athletic, playing football, basketball and baseball in high school and college. His talent captured the attention of the Baltimore Orioles, who recruited him, but he ultimately decided that was not the life for him. He especially loved playing golf with his son and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Anita Carroll of San Antonio; three daughters, Christine Duran and her husband Steven of Dublin, California; Katherine Kirby and her husband Roger of New York, New York; Stephanie Daniels and her husband Clive of Fort Worth, Texas; and one son, James Carroll Jr. of West Palm Beach, Florida; three step daughters: Stephanie Beyries and her husband Christopher of Westlake Village, California, Jennifer Webb and her husband Andrew of Eagle Mountain, Utah; and Susan Lindberg and her husband Van of San Antonio, Texas; 17 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Kelley and Charles Carek.
