

James P. Carroll Jr., a devoted family man, a dedicated veteran, and a steadfast contributor to both his community and his profession, departed this world on November 30, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and cherished memories.
James, born on November 23, 1929, was a proud son, father, grandfather, and friend. His journey began in Sanford, Alabama, where he would later embark on a remarkable 22-year career with the United States Air Force. Rising to the rank of Master Sergeant (MSGT), James served with distinction in supply and logistics, displaying unwavering commitment and diligence to his duty. His military service took him to various corners of the world, instilling in him a sense of discipline and honor that would shape the rest of his life.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, James transitioned seamlessly into civilian life, briefly joining the United States Postal Service before finding his second professional home at Alyeska Pipeline Service Company. For over two decades, James applied his expertise and work ethic to contribute to the success of the company. His dedication and reliability earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, leaving an indelible mark on the organization.
In 1983, James faced a profound loss with the passing of his first wife, Alice.
James was blessed to find forever love again when he married Dixie. They spent 39 wonderful years together.
James was a man of diverse interests and passions. He found joy in the simplicity of life, relishing in the camaraderie of fellow bowlers and the thrill of exploring new destinations with Dixie by his side. A lifelong Alabama football fan, James cheered on his beloved team with unwavering enthusiasm, bringing friends and family together for spirited game days.
In remembering James P. Carroll Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by sacrifice, dedication, and a profound love for those who were fortunate enough to be a part of his world. He leaves behind cherished memories and an enduring legacy that will be carried on by his family and friends.
James is survived by his loving wife Dixie; his children, Judy McClain and Jerry Carroll and wife Cindy; daughter-in-law, Sandy Carroll; stepchildren, Nancy Cooley, Linda Hamilton and husband Joe, and Steven Leroy Rupe and wife Tia; as well as 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James Perry Carroll.
