James Robert Jorgensen passed away peacefully at his home in San Antonio on October 29, 2010. Jim was born September 27, 1922 to Peter and Ena Jorgensen on a farm in North Dakota. His parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters predeceased him.
Jim was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his wife Betty, son Eugene Gayle Jorgensen, daughters Patricia Steven Feldman and Janet Carl Tanner, 5 grandchildren Damian and Nicole Jorgensen, Andrew and Evan Feldman, and Benjamin Tanner, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters Nina Beckman and May Cross, and many nephews and nieces.
Growing up on a farm, Jim learned to fix and build almost anything, skills he and his family enjoyed all his life.
Jim was a brilliant man. An avid reader, he loved to learn and put himself through school. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II then worked for Kemper Insurance for 33 years, retiring in 1982. Jim began his career as an auditor but spent the last 20 years in the education department as a teacher.
When retired, he authored several insurance textbooks and lectured, but spent most of his days devoted to his beloved game of golf. Jim was an accomplished golfer, winning several amateur trophies, always walking the course, and was on a perpetual quest to find the perfect swing; a quest his son, grandsons, and others continue in his honor.
Jim loved the outdoors and taught his family to love camping, hiking, and exploring the back roads.
Jim was a member of Shearer Hills Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 1, at 10:00 A.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
