He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1940 and Texas A&M in 1945. James proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
James and his bride Lillie Mae were married for 59 years. Together they traveled and raised their five children in Frankfurt, Germany and San Antonio.
James retired from the Air Force at Kelly Air Force Base. He later retired from Civil Service. James was very involved in community affairs. He enjoyed skeet shooting and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie; children, Margaret C. Lawrence, James and Kathy Eaton, Robert and Mary Eaton, Janice and David Nava, and Janette and Tim Tant; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
