

Born on January 28, 1948, James's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his passion for adventure and his brilliant knowledge of diverse subjects.
James graduated from Harlandale High School and enlisted quick after. He was drafted and served 4 years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. In his return, James decided to further his education in Business at The University of Texas. His professional journey was as diverse as it was fulfilling. He began his career as a sales representative at Verizon, where his charm and wit made him a favorite among colleagues and clients alike. James's leadership skills shone brightly as he took on roles such as VP Franchise Director at Colortyme Rent to Own and Regional VP at Remco Rent to Own. He also found joy in the simplicity of being a shuttle driver, working with Professional Transportation, Inc. and Railcrew Xpress.
James's love for the open road was not confined to his work. As a former motorcycle safety rider coach at The Motorcycle School, he combined his passion for motorcycles with a commitment to safety and the empowerment of others. His days as a courier driver for Hot Shot Final Mile and Cardinal Couriers were marked by his dedication and the care he took in ensuring that every delivery was as important as the last.
Family was important to James's life. He is survived by his son James William Knighton and mother Margie Knighton; son Jeremy Evan Knighton, his wife Renaye, and their children Kya, Hattie, Aidan, and Jackson; as well as Jeremy's mother, Jacque Knighton. James is also survived by his sister Lorraine McVey; nieces Jamye Divilla-Largent and husband, Chris Largent and Janna Buchanan and partner, Stephanie Jude; as well as his great-nephew, Beckett Buchanan. James's role as a father and grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and his legacy lives on through the love and lessons he imparted to his family. James is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Felice Knighton.
James's adventurous spirit was matched by his sense of humor. He was the kind of man who could light up a room with a well-timed joke or a funny anecdote. His laughter was contagious, and he had a unique ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures. James loved to ride his motorcycle with his buddies, exploring the open roads and making memories that would last a lifetime. He also relished the times he spent sharing meals and stories with those around him, always ensuring that everyone felt included and valued.
James E. Knighton lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever ride on in the hearts of those he loved. James's journey through life was a beautiful ride, and though it has come to an end, the stories and joy he shared will echo through generations.
A celebration of life for James will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at 247 Church, 5415 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78247. A committal service will follow from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78209.
