James Mendes went to be with his Heavenly Father on Aug. 24, 2012. He was born in Fall River, Mass. in Sept. of 1931. He entered the Army at age 16 and served in post war Germany for 3 yrs. He married Hedwig M. Christel in 1952. Together they traveled with the military all over the United States and abroad. He retired from the Army in 1970 with 22 yrs of service. He served at Peacock Military Academy before going to work for Alamo Iron Works. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hedwig.
His survivors include: daughter, Isabel; grandson, Noel C. Dickey, his wife Peggy and their three children, Savannah, Gabriel and Kaylyn; and numerous relatives on the east and west coast and in Germany.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
