

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley, children, Ron Rogers and wife, Celeste of St. Hedwig, TX., Mark Rogers and wife, Nancy of League City, TX.; grandchildren, Nicole Sommer and husband, Jacob; Tim Rogers and wife, Melissa; Jonathan Rogers and wife, Mackenzie; Katie Weems and husband, Matt; and Jennifer Miles and husband, Scott; great grandchildren, Abigail, Christian, Makenzie, Addison, Brody, Chloe, Everett, and Owen.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Jim was born on January 6, 1931 to James P. and Pearl C. Rogers. He attended Christian Brothers Military Prep High School in St. Louis, before joining the Army ROTC program at the University of Missouri. He ran track for his alma mater. After completing his degree, he married and proceeded to military flight school. Although he flew both airplanes and helicopters, his love was flying choppers during most of his Army career.
During his military career he spent one peace keeping tour in Korea and two combat tours in Vietnam as Commanding Officer of helicopter companies. After retiring from the military, he was the chief pilot and flight manager for Chapparel Aviation at San Antonio International Airport.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and oldest son, James Eugene Rogers.
James and Shirley were longtime members of St. Helena’s Catholic Church, San Antonio, TX. Visitation for LTC. Rogers will be Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 11:15-1:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home, San Antonio, TX. Internment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 pm at Shelter #5 with full military honors.
