Jim did not have acquaintances; if he knew you, you were a friend. He was proud of his time in the Army serving his country. He forged friendships with his customers at M. Jacks Fire and Safety, which he owned and operated alongside employees and business partners that became like a second family. But, more than anything, Jim was proud of the family that he and his beloved wife, Virginia, raised. Jim enjoyed life, and especially enjoyed sitting at the head of the table at a nice restaurant with a glass of wine so that he could see his entire family all at the table together. Jim always insisted on ordering dessert for the table and just one more glass of wine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Samuel, and two sisters Joy Koch and Gladys Tavano; and his loving wife of 45 years, Virginia Ann Shelton. James is survived by his daughters, Cindy Powell (Wade) and Judy Cain (Mark); his grandchildren, Afton (Lance), Reagan, Sara, Mason, and Ethan; and one great grandchild, Leah; and his siblings, Bill Shelton, and Sue Heather. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
