

James (Jim) R. Stewart, Lt. Colonel U.S. Air Force Retired, passed on September 30, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Conway, Arkansas, on July 18, 1943. Lt. Col. Stewart is survived by his wife Suzanne and younger sisters Alice Atkins and Linda Stewart. He is also survived by his daughter Jennifer Wilson, Jennifer’s husband Dustin, and his grandchildren Madilyn and Nathan. Also surviving are his son Michael Stewart, Michael’s wife Gretchen, and his grandchildren Riley, Remington, and Ryker. Additionally, he is survived by his stepson Brad Mueller and stepdaughter Tara Vaughan, Tara’s husband Eric, and his grandchildren Rosslyn, Bronwyn, Eilis, and Mara.
Lt. Col. Stewart was a graduate of North Little Rock High School, Class of 1961. In addition, he graduated from North Little Rock University with a B.S. in Marketing, Management, and Administration in 1966. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1966. While stationed at Dyess Air Force Base, he earned his MBA from Hardin Simmons University in 1973. He proudly served his country for over 20 years. His service included deployments to Viet Nam, Philippines, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. He concluded his service as Deputy Base Commander at Vance Air Force Base. Among his awards and decorations are four Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Air Force Commendation Medals, and two Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards. After a successful career in the U.S. Air Force, he went on to own a marine business. He also served as Director of Supply and Services with the San Antonio Water System. He retired from SAWS in 2001. In his retirement, he enjoyed time with family, traveling, substitute teaching, being actively involved in various clubs, and holding numerous board positions in his neighborhood association.
His integrity, leadership, love of country, the outdoors, and family are his legacy. He took pride in all of his titles, especially Husband, Dad, Papa, and Friend.
Visitation will be at Porter Loring 2102 N. Loop 1604 E. San Antonio, TX on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 6:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral mass will be Tuesday, October 8 at 9:30am at St. Matthew Church 10703 Wurzbach Road. Graveside service and interment with military honors will follow the mass at 11:15am at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
