James Edward Tabor was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who lived a life defined by service, honor, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life. Born on February 3, 1942, in Brownwood, TX, James passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, in San Antonio, TX, following a heart attack.
James grew up in the heart of Texas in the loving home of Henry and Florence Tabor. He proudly graduated from Cisco High School in 1961. He briefly attended Cisco Junior College, a testament to his lifelong love of learning and personal growth. Showing a commitment to his country early on, James enlisted in the Air Force in Abilene, TX, and began his basic training on January 28, 1963, at Lackland AFB, TX. His dedication to service was evident as he went on to attend the Air Police Academy, also at Lackland AFB.
During his distinguished military career, James served two years at England AFB in Louisiana before answering the call to serve at Cam Rahn Air Base in Vietnam for approximately one year. Upon returning stateside, he taught combat skills at Bergstrom AFB and ascended to the role of instructor after completing training at the Security Police Academy in 1973. James's journey of service took him to the far reaches of Cape Newingham, Alaska followed by a six year assignment in the Strategic Air Command at Carswell AFB, TX.
In 1980, as a section supervisor, he oversaw a new unit of 400 security police at Loring AFB, Maine. His final years in the military were spent on the Pacific Air Command Security Police staff in Hawaii, a role that saw him often traveling abroad. James's illustrious Air Force career concluded in 1992 when he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from Kelly AFB, TX, after more than three decades of faithful service.
Post-retirement, James joined his friend at Star Supply, managing the sale and rental of construction tools and equipment. This second career provided James with the opportunity to apply his leadership skills in a new environment and to continue making a positive impact in his community.
James's passions extended beyond his professional life; he loved to play golf, watch westerns, and attend church. He loved do volunteer work for troops stationed away from home during the holidays and was an elder for his church in his senior years. He nurtured strong, loving relationships with his family and friends, cherishing the time spent with them above all else.
