

James Owen Taylor III passed away June 25, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 69. Mr. Taylor was born in San Antonio on September 5, 1939 and grew up in Del Rio and on his mother and father's ranches in Val Verde County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Del Rio and Methodist churches in Austin and San Antonio until he joined the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.) His last church was North Central Christian Church where he served as an Elder and Leader in the Stephen's Ministry Program. His constant prayer was "Lord, I just want to serve you, let me be useful." Mr. Taylor, a CPA specializing in tax, attended Del Rio public schools and The University of Texas in Austin where he graduated with a BBA and MPA. He became a partner in Peat Marwick Mitchell & Company now KPMG) and was in charge of the Tax Department in Austin until he left to open his own practice in San Antonio. In addition to his practice, he was a Real Estate Broker and ran the family ranch several years. He is survived by his wife of twenty-five years Gail Sims Taylor, two sons Robert James Taylor and wife Kinin Suos Taylor of San Antonio, and Richard Warren Taylor and wife Christy Lynn Taylor of Austin, TX and grandchildren John Howard Taylor, Andrew Caleb Taylor, Austin James Taylor, Victoria Grace Taylor, Travis Warren Taylor, and one aunt Mary Savannah Mayfield of New Braunfels, and her children John Carter Mayfield III and wife Janet, William Travis Mayfield, Robert Scott Mayfield and wife Pamela and Grace Irene Mayfield Brooks and husband Terry. He was especially proud of his sons Robert and Warren, who are great fathers. He was preceded in death by his brother John Edward Taylor and his parents J.O. Taylor, Jr. and Mary Irene Mayfield Taylor. Pallbearers are John C. Mayfield, III, W.T. Mayfield, Robert Scott Mayfield, T.J. Jarrett, Hank Moody, Jim Cauthorn, and Don Deal. Honorary Pallbearers are Jay Vineyard, Fred Dittman, Tom Reed, Harry Truman, Leon Durbin and Gene Zimmerman. In lieu of usual remembrances donations may be given to the Memorial Fund of North Central Christian Church, 1300 Evans Road, San Antonio, Texas 78258 or a church or charity of choice.
