It is with deep sadness that we announce James William Thompson found peace after fighting cancer, COVID, and pneumonia on December 28th, 2023. He was born in San Antonio on March 16th, 1935. He was a caring husband, father, brother, and proud grandfather.
He and his wife, Donna Joan, who preceded him in death, enjoyed 58 years together. A mainstay of his and Joan’s life was monthly lunches with the “St Stephen’s Legacy” group - previous church friends that still gather after 42 years.
Their daughter, Treva, was born in 1960. The same year, he began a 40-year career with the San Antonio River Authority. He was also a longtime member of the International Right of Way Association. Jim stayed active and loved his friends. After his retirement, he enjoyed the SARA “Lunch Bunch” fellowship for another 23 years.
Jim passed down his passion for fishing to his son, Travis, born in 1965, and then to his grandson, Tyler, who was the light of his life. In his younger years, he could be found in his garden, tending to hundreds of award-winning roses. Jim loved hunting, fishing, World War II History and had an extensive knowledge of old shotguns and rifles.
Jim is survived by his children; Treva Thompson, and Travis Thompson, wife Candice, grandson, Tyler; brother, John Thompson; his wife, Molly; his brother-in-law, Stayton Woodall; and his partner, Gayle Logsdon. His family and friends will greatly miss him.
Visitation will be on January 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held the following day at 10:00 am with a small reception from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. All services will be at Porter Loring Funeral Home North. Internment will be held privately by the family.
