James Carl Whitmire moved past this life on Thursday, April 11, 2024. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 14, 1949. His father was an Army Air Corp B-26 pilot in WWII. His family were farmers and socially active in the West Oso Community. He graduated from Corpus Christi Academy in 1966. Jim set his goal on becoming a member of the Notre Dame band early in life. He was President of the Notre Dame Band in 1969 and graduated in 1970.
He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in 1970 and never looked back. He was stationed around the country and world; proudly wearing, serving, and honoring the stars and stripes. While in the Army, Jim earned master’s degrees from both Pepperdine and Baylor. Lieutenant Colonel James C. Whitmire retired from the United States Army in August of 1995.
Jim had an ability to let each person he met feel a genuine concern for their well-being. His greatest pleasure was helping others. After his retirement from the U.S. Army, he was active in numerous organizations to help make the world a better place.
A Rosary will be held for Jim at Porter Loring Mortuary North on Monday, April 29th at 7:00 pm. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, April 30th. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
