Jean Ladd passed peacefully January 27, 2012. She was born Jean McGraw to John and Nancye McGraw in Selma, Alabama on April 6, 1921. The McGraws moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1925 where Jean spent the rest of her youth.
It was in Lake Charles that Jean attracted an unsuspecting Herb Ladd. Herb entered the Army Air Corps in 1941 and their April 26, 1942 wedding began almost 70 years of matrimonial bliss. Their life together took them to South and Central America, Canada, and numerous stateside postings before retiring in Austin, Texas in 1973 and a last move to Air Force Village II in 1989.
Jean kept herself busy raising two active boys, playing bridge, golfing and the never ending responsibilities of the conscientious Air Force wife of the 50's, 60's and 70's. Their retirement added the joy of RVing with friends.
She is survived by her loving husband, Herb, sons Bart and Dito, brother John McGraw, Jr., grandchildren Jessica, Matt, Ashley and Brittany, and great grandchildren Max, Betsy, Logan, Dylan, and Jack.
We will miss her quick smile, loving touch, and that Irish spark.
A graveside service was held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Freedom House, 12455 Freedom Way, San Antonio, TX 78245 or AFV II Health Care Center, 5100 John D. Ryan Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78245. Please make checks payable to Air Force Village Charitable Foundation (AFVCF).
