

Jerry Allen Thorne, age 57, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on January 7, 1959 in La Marque, Texas to John and Patricia Thorne. Jerry Thorne was a very good man. He was honest, responsible, kind and loving. He had many diverse interests and enjoyed pursuing all of them. In doing so he created many memories to recall and share with his family and friends.
As a young man, he enjoyed hunting, particularly for dove and quail. He also liked all kinds of fishing, but especially saltwater fishing at La Guna Madre. Scuba Diving was also a recreation that provided many enjoyable vacations.
He appreciated the beautiful locations in the world and traveled to several of them. These locations included Venezuela, England, Saudi Arabia, Napal, Egypt, Stonehenge and many others. He was a generous friend and always bought special presents for them when he returned home.
As an avid reader Jerry was usually in the middle of a good book. He chose a wide variety of authors including Mark Twain, Bill Bryson and John Grisham. He particularly enjoyed historical nonfiction but appreciated good writing about any subject.
Jerry began his work in pipeline control with TEPSCO. He worked his way up in the company through manual labor to supervision during 25 years of employment. He was hired by Premcor to set up a control room in Memphis, TN for their refinery. Following this assignment, the company was acquired by Valero Corporation. He was then transferred to San Antonio as a Senior Pipeline Controller. Jerry was a very conscientious employee and was devoted to the responsibilities of this position.
Jerry and Debbie have known each other since they were teen-agers. They had been on separate life journeys but had always maintained a special bond. 12 years ago they decided to continue their life’s journey together. They shared a loving relationship as husband and wife. With this relationship Jerry gained a daughter named Stevie and a granddaughter named Kinsley. Since he had known them all their lives he already loved them. Debbie also gained the love of Jerry’s family. Because of the happy times these families have shared there will be many wonderful memories to recall.. He is survived by his wife Debbie L. Thorne; daughter, Stevie Kabboord and husband Mike; granddaughter, Kinsley Gross; brothers, John Thomas Thorne and wife Genet, Ernest Eugene Thorne and wife Ana; sister, Alida Diane Andrews and husband John; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M with a Funeral Service at 5:00 P.M. Interment will follow on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the Oak Rest Cemetery in Medina, Texas.
