He married the love of his life, Janie Rodriguez in 1949 and raised a family that made them both proud. He will forever be remembered for his heart of gold for giving and caring. He touched many lives with his acts of kindness and generosity. Several people, especially widows, children and elderly frequently express their gratitude for his charitable acts. He proudly served in the Air National Guard and received an Honorable Discharge August 4, 1950. He worked at Metzger's Dairy as a route salesman for 20 years. He worked at El Tropicano hotel as a maintenance man for 15 years. In 1973, he nearly died from being knocked unconscious by a falling pipe and then hot water pouring over and burning 80 percent of his body. His recovery was nothing short of a miracle.
In respect to his vocation, Jesse pursued continuing education at San Antonio College, Texas A&M System, Doolin Technical College, and The Trade & Industrial Education Division. He obtained certification in refrigeration, heating and air conditioning. He even took a class in Basic Electrical Repair. Following that he worked at the Methodist and Humana Hospitals as an engineer. He retired in 2000. One of his favorite activities was playing soccer. He played on several teams and he even formed his own soccer team. Other favorites were gardening, miniature golf and bowling. He also enjoyed watching the Spurs, soccer and baseball games. His great sense of humor, mischief spirit and warm smile will be dearly missed.
The family would like to express thanks and gratitude to his caregivers. During his final days Holy Savior Hospice gave hope and faith to the family – for that we will always be thankful.
