February 1, 1930 – September 25, 2021
Jesus Z. Sanchez went to be with the Lord at the age of 91 on Saturday, September 25, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by those he loved. He was born to proud parents Manuel and Maria Sanchez on February 1, 1930, in Crystal City, Texas. He was one of four siblings. Jesus was the Sanchez family Patriarch, loved by so many. Jesus, also known as “Chuy” or “Jesse,” was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Godfather, and friend.
In 1946, he met a strikingly beautiful young lady, the love of his life, Zoila. On November 12, 1948, they became one in holy matrimony. Jesus and Zoila enjoyed almost 73 years of marital bliss and were blessed with eleven wonderful children. Jesus met Zoila at Reyna’s Grocery, her mother’s store. He strategically made several trips to the store to buy bologna, where we learned he was always given more than he purchased.
At a very young age, Jesus had high aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur. He was the local owner of several establishments: the White Tower Restaurant, Gulf (a full-service gas station), Mission Trail Inn (bar and grill), and Sanchez State Vehicle Inspections. He was also employed with the City of San Antonio Environmental Management Department for over 33 years. Jesus was a devout Catholic who was devoted to the Mission Concepción. Since 1964, he was so proud to sponsor the Virgin de Guadalupe Mass celebration honoring his late son, Jesus R. Sanchez II. Jesus was a very humble and giving gentleman who helped countless people get through hardships. Anyone he encountered needing help received it. He had an extraordinary giving heart.
Jesus will be remembered for his unfailing devotion and love for his wife, children, family, and friends. His motto he lived by and instilled in his children: “nunca se te olvide de donde viniste, (never forget where you came from). You will forever be in our hearts our beloved Patriarch.
Jesus is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria Sanchez; his children Sylvia R. Sanchez, Jesus R. Sanchez II, Jose Angel Sanchez; his brother Fidencio Sanchez; his sisters Dolores Gonzalez and Irene Hurtado. He is survived by his beloved wife Zoila R. Sanchez; his children Theresa Jimenez (Richard), Richard Sanchez (June), Rene Sanchez (Maria), Gloria S. Lopez, Ralph Sanchez (Lisa), Annie S. Ledesma (Joe), Jesus R. Sanchez III (Kathy), Raymond Sanchez (Gina); 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and many loving friends.
The Sanchez family would like to thank the Gonzaba Medical Group, specifically William Thomas Gonzaba, MD, Jose A. Acosta, PA, and all the nurses for their exceptional care provided to our father.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough with a rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. Seating will be limited due to social distancing protocol, and everyone entering will be asked to wear a mask.
