Jim Eric Meckel

Jim Eric Meckel passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, of natural causes in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. Jim was born November 8, 1961, in Mission, Texas, to Elmer Joe and Esther Meckel who preceded him in death. Jim was also preceded in death by his brother Robert Meckel (Phyllis) of Austin, Texas.

Jim is survived by his beloved son, Kevin James Meckel, of Kyle, Texas. He is also survived by siblings Alfred Meckel of San Antonio, Texas; Norma Saenz (Milo, deceased) of Mission, Texas; Garry Meckel (Karen) of Lubbock, Texas; and Sylvia Kukol (Tim) of San Marcos, Texas. Jim leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jim graduated from Sharyland High School and grew up working in the family business, Meckel Nursery, and later owned and operated J & E Meckel Nursery in Sharyland, Texas. He also lived in Painesville, Ohio where he worked for Henkel Company for several years, before returning to Mission, Texas. Jim was currently working for Granchelli Construction, owned and operated by his dear friend, Jim Granchelli, along with the Granchelli children who viewed him as an extended family member.

Jim was happiest when he was hunting or fishing – both fresh and salt water – and loved scuba diving. He also loved sharing his bounty with family and friends and sought out any excuse to get together and enjoy good times with others, and he especially treasured time spent with his son, Kevin. Jim also loved animals and had a special bond with his beloved dogs Tiffy, Zach, and Alicyn throughout the years.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Sunset North Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas and a Celebration of Life will be held in Mission, Texas.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Riverside Club located at 214 E. Chimney Road in Mission, Texas 78572. Please come and go from 2pm to 5pm, with a short service scheduled at 3pm. Light refreshments will be served, and a cash bar will be available for soft drinks and adult beverages.
