Joseph Javier Gonzales (“J.J.”), age 50, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on November 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family after courageously battling cancer since 2019. Born on May 29, 1975, J.J. brought a bold, joyful light into the world; one that he shared generously with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
J.J. was a man who lived life fully and fearlessly. He never did anything halfway; if he was in it, he was all in - usually making everyone laugh in the process. With a personality that filled any room, J.J. had a natural gift for drawing people in, lifting their spirits, and turning ordinary moments into memories. His sense of humor, loyalty, and kindness created a family far beyond blood; J.J. built an incredible extended family through friendship, brothers & sisters, connected not by birth, but by love.
He was a proud alumnus of St. Paul's Catholic School class of 1989, Holy Cross Catholic High School class of 1993, and attended a few semesters of college. He took immense pride in his career with H.E.B., where his work ethic, positivity, and warmth made him well-loved by co-workers and partners alike. His charisma didn’t stop there. J.J. also worked with KSAT12 News, appearing in promotional commercials for local “Deal of the Day” guy segments, where his charm and humor shined naturally on camera. Outside of work, he loved directing/coaching his S.A. Chiefs Volleyball club teams, being a chairman at NIOSA for Mr. Chicken, drumming, Vegas trips, and blasting Mötley Crüe - always with a laugh and a story to tell.
Above all else, J.J. found his greatest joy in being a girl dad. His daughters, Sommer and Izabella, were the lights of his life; his love, lessons, and laughter will forever guide them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Gonzales. He is lovingly survived by his mother, Carmen Gonzales; his loving wife, Cyndi Gonzales; his daughters, Sommer Gonzales (boyfriend, Jax) and Izabella Gonzales; and his precious grandchildren, Leia and Reed, who filled his heart with pride and joy. Every step of his journey was walked with his family at his side, holding his hand and covering him in love. J.J.’s unshakable belief in God carried him through every challenge, and the strength of his faith continues to comfort all who were blessed to love him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate and honor J.J.’s life. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78212.
A Mass will be held the following day, Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 350 Sutton Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78228. Burial will follow at Mission Park Funeral Chapels and Cemetery Dominion, 20900 I-10, San Antonio, Texas 78257.
J.J.’s laughter, strength, and spirit leave an unforgettable legacy. He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
