He was born September 24, 1928, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Joseph A. and Marina Ayers.
Joe and his family moved to San Antonio in 1961 where he coached and managed Little League, Pony League, Semi-Pro, and North-South All Star Baseball teams for more than 25 years. Joe was also a long-standing member of the San Antonio Executive Club and was the founder and owner of Ayers Distributing.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Ayers; children, Joe Ayers, Jr. and wife, Dana, William Ayers and Kathy Ayers; grandchildren, Bubba Hickman and wife, Melissa, Joe Ayers III, Michael Ayers, Sonny Rhea Hickman, Leslye, Natalye and Ashlee Ayers; great-grandchildren, Megan, Morgan and Tyler Joseph; sister, Mary June Lavender and husband, Hardy; great friend, Michael Long.
