Born and raised in Bryan, Texas, John grew from the first born of four boys—caring with compassion for his three brothers—into a man who lived his Catholic faith fully: always kind, always present, and always striving to serve God by serving others. He was the epitome of the perfect dad: kind and loving, yet firm when needed, always with the best in mind for his children. Whether as a father, teacher, coach, example, friend, adversary, devil’s advocate, or protector—John filled each role with unwavering devotion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years of marriage, Charline C. Boriskie. The two met at the Bill Mraz Dance Hall in Houston over Easter Weekend in 1958 and were married the following January. Together they have raised four children and shared in their joyful lives. Cathy Rasmussen and husband Tom, James Boriskie and wife Carol, Stephen Boriskie and wife Brandy, and Debbie Collins and husband Matt.
John was Pawpaw to many cherished grandchildren: the late Rachel A. Rasmussen, Jonathan Rasmussen and wife Christina, Bailey Pate and husband Alex, Stetson Boriskie, Casey Boriskie, Luke Boriskie, Tipton Boriskie, Finn Boriskie, Jake Collins and fiancée Savannah Lee, and Natalie Collins.
He was also blessed to know four great-grandchildren: Leann Rasmussen, Emma Rasmussen, Jameson Pate, and Colter Pate.
John’s parents, Jacob Boriskie and wife Josephine (both now deceased) lived a simple life where hard work and strong faith in God guided their family and put at the forefront of priority the raising of four boys. John is survived by his brothers George Boriskie (and late wife Ann), Floyd Boriskie (and late wife Maxine), and Jake Boriskie (deceased) and wife Rose Marie, along with many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends who cherished him deeply.
A true lover of people, John’s warmth touched everyone he met. He was also an outdoorsman who loved to fish and deer hunt, a faithful steward of God’s creation, and a gentle soul who believed every creature and every person had their place and purpose.
He was well known for his trademark greetings—most famously, “How ya doin’? Pretty good?”, “Doing all the good?”, and “Take Care”—phrases that live on in the hearts of family and friends alike.
Above all, John followed Jesus in word and action—loving, forgiving, listening, and faithfully attending nearly all of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, whether sports, concerts, or other important events. His life was his testimony.
He will be remembered as a man of faith, love, and laughter, whose example will guide his family for generations to come.
John was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus, a devoted member of the KJT of Texas, and served in various capacities at his Catholic churches including Guardian Angel in Pasadena, St. Pius V in Pasadena, St. Hyacinth in Deer Park, St. Margaret Mary in Cedar Park, and St. Anthony Mary Claret in San Antonio.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the wonderful staff of the assisted living and hospice teams who cared for John with such compassion, especially Chandler, whose dedication and kindness made her a true blessing in Dad’s care during his final days. There were many others too that stepped up and gave extra time and care, an example of the dedication of his caregivers.
Although we all will miss dad, his legacy will last forever in his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. May God bless John James Boriskie, and may God bless all of those whose lives he touched.
