

John Patrick Cass, age 69, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. John was born in New York, NY to John P. Cass and Elizabeth Mary (Considine) on September 28, 1948. He graduated from Regis High School, New York, and from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
John served our country for over 50 years. First, in the United States Army as a cadet at West Point and after graduation as an Armor Officer in Germany where he achieved the rank of Captain. After his military service, he continued to work for the Department of Army as a Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Financial Management Analyst with the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) in Heidelberg, Germany and later with the United States Forces Command (FORSCOM) at Fort McPherson, Georgia. In 2002, he was part of the core MWR staff from FORSCOM which became the MWR management team for the new Installation Management Command's (IMCOM) Southeast Region at Fort McPherson which in 2011 became the Atlantic Region at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Most recently he has worked as a Management Analyst with the Army's MWR programs at Headquarters, IMCOM at Fort Sam Houston.
John was an avid reader with interests in history and science fiction and a lifelong New York Yankees fan. John enjoyed volunteering at Zoo Atlanta for 10 years before moving to Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his father, John P. Cass and brother, Brian Cass. John is survived by Geraldine Walotsky Cass; his mother, Elizabeth M. Cass; son, John Michael; daughter, Alexandra; brother, Thomas Cass and wife Mary Ann; sisters, Betty Cass-Schmidt and husband Arthur, and Clare Armbruster and husband Tod.
