

The following four years were spent at Schreiner College and the University of Texas in the schools of Business and Engineering. Jack pledged and was Treasurer and House Manager two years in his Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He was All-University in softball and track, a member of the University Dance Committee, and president of the Co-op Purchasing Association.
After completion of college he was employed by one of the refining units in Port Neches, married Doris McLeod of Kerrville and enjoyed fatherhood with sons Stanley, Jack Jimmy and daughter Sharon.
During the ensuing thirty years of employment Jack was a city councilman in Nederland for eight years, was in several positions in the Methodist Church, was first president of the Mid-County Municipal League, and a charter member of the 111th Engineer Battalion Texas National Guard.
Working through the grade structure of the Army he graduated from the Career Engineer School, Command and General Staff College (and Instructor), Industrial College of Armed Forces (and Instructor), and the Nuclear Weapons Employment school. In 1975, Jack was promoted to Colonel and retired two years later with 24 years of service.
After retirement he moved to Houston, and later married Margaret Kohel from Wisconsin. In 1987 they designed and built a home in New Braunfels. In 2007, they moved to San Antonio. Jack especially enjoyed traveling, Bridge playing, reading and sports.
As a member of the Fort Sam Houston Optimist Club, Jack served as President one year and three years as district Lt. Governor.
Jack admired and emulated his father, Colonel "Johnny", and had many fun days early-on with his brother, (Jim) James.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Burial will take place at a later date in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Those who wish to attend the service will be asked to wear a face mask and to observe social distancing guidelines.
