Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn Luce Goebel; and his parents, Harold and Anne Goebel; Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Jack graduated from Jefferson High School in 1941, attended Texas A&M University Class of '45, was a captain in the United States Air Force and served our country in World War II as a navigator on B-17's and in the Korean War as a construction engineer.
Jack was president of Jack Goebel Construction Company where he made a positive impact on the growth of San Antonio in the 1960's and 1970's.
Jack had a smile that warmed your heart and the handshake of a man that you could always count on and trust. He is warmly remembered by his fellow parishioners at St. Pius X Catholic Church and by the business community of San Antonio.
Jack also had a love for the water and shared many memories with his family and friends on his boat, the 'Queen of Jacks.'
Jack was an avid Texas Aggie fan and also enjoyed the recent Spurs championship.
Jack was also a Charter member of the A.R.C.S. Alamo Radio Control Society and enjoyed building and flying radio control airplanes.
He was deeply loved and is survived by his seven children: daughter, Corene Goebel Dyer; son, John Stuart Goebel and his wife Kip Hix Goebel; daughter, Jane Goebel Tomaszewski and husband Gary Tomaszewski; son, Mark James Goebel; daughter, Mary Christine Goebel Volkmer and Sherry Wood; son, Stephen Roger Goebel and wife Vicki Brown Goebel; and son, Peter Luce Goebel and wife Laura Houser Goebel, and nineteen grandchildren: Ruth Marie Dyer, John Charles Dickey Dyer, David Christopher Dyer, Stephen Mark Dyer, Damon Stuart Goebel, Dustin John Goebel, Lillian Aimee Goebel, Angela Catherine Obriotti Burke and husband Brad Burke, Andrew Joseph Obriotti, Lauren Jane Obriotti, Courtney Anne Goebel, Aaron David Goebel, Carlin James Volkmer, Benjamin Joseph Volkmer, Peter Christopher Volkmer, Sarah Louise Goebel, Jeffory Patrick Goebel, Jackson Luce Goebel, Lauren Claire Goebel; and two great grandsons, Blake Andrew Burke and Cody Patrick Burke.
He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Goebel Brown and brother-in-law Richard Brown, and Marilyn Goebel Parker and brother-in-law, Dr. Bruce Parker; and cousins, Bud and Margaret Wheeler; numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack's spirit of courage, patience, perseverance, and humor during the last few years as he battled Parkinson's disease amazed his family and many loving caretakers, in particular, Mrs. Willie Hill at 3139 Candlewood and all of the wonderful staff at Arden Courts. The halls of Arden Courts were filled with stories of Jack's kindness, goodness, and warm heart.
The family also wishes to sincerely express our gratitude to their sister, Corene, for her incredible heart and endless spirit and time that she gave to our father.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Texas A & M Foundation in memory of Jack and his best friend, Damon Tassos, at the request of our dear friend, Wanda Tassos.
Also, donations to Hospice would greatly be appreciated.
