John Henry Lohman came to this world on September 2, 1927 with such a pleasant disposition he acquired the lifelong nickname of "Hap". John went to be with God on Thursday, September 3, 2015. John worked in his family's commercial laundry supply business beginning at the age of 9 busting boilers with sledge hammer. John remembered all those hours at the family business were paid for in experience. And how that experience paid.
John enlisted in the United States Army in May, 1945 and was immediately accepted into Officer Candidate School (OCS). John was prepared to enter World War II, after having been commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in August of 1945. After peace was declared, John left the Army to attend Southern Methodist University. Having decided the Army offered a good career path, John received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1950. In 1954, after graduation, John again found himself commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army He was initially assigned Battery Commander and Operations Officer to the 4th Armored Division and 82nd Airborne Division. After having spent the last 2 years of his Army duty stationed in Germany, John resigned his commission and returned to his hometown of Dallas, TX. He went to worked for Texas Instruments where he continued to build on his Engineering background. He moved to San Antonio, TX in 1970 to work for Alamo Iron Works. Upon leaving AIW, he went on to build 2 forging facilities in San Antonio, Blackwell Burner and Consolidated Foundry. Based on the considerable learning experience this offered him, John went into business for himself in February 1980, forming Industrial Consultants. Consultations were conducted with many variations of clients concerning industrial management, manufacturing processes and procedures. His clients included individuals, corporations, insurance companies and attorneys. John held numerous patents, many of which are still in use today. John authored several publications, many widely recognized as still relevant in today's engineering environment.
Above all, John was considered a man of high ethics and standards, confirmed by being a finalist in San Antonio Ethics in Business awards in 2008. He was an active member of the Alamo Kiwanis. John was an avid hunter and fisherman with a compelling sense of humor. He never met a joke he couldn't embellish and make his own.
John is survived by his extremely loving and dedicated wife of 61 years, Betty Teel Lohman; daughters, Patricia Mulkey and husband, Keith, Susan Murdock and husband, Tim, Diane Lohman Estes and husband, Jim; 4 granddaughters, Erin Mulkey Ryley and husband Jameson, Meagan Mulkey Trosper and husband Reed, Emily Caspary and Ashley Caspary.
