
McGEE
John Arlen McGee passed away from this life into another, June 11, 2002. He was born in Okemah, OK. , June 4, 1929 to A.M. "Buster" McGee and Jeanette Arlene McGee, nee Lawrimore, who preceded him in death. John graduated from Excelsior High School in OK. as valedictorian of his 1947 class. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State, majoring in animal husbandry. He was in San Antonio, Texas in 1952 as 2nd Lt. at Lackland AFB. After honorable discharge he joined the San Antonio Light newspaper as a sales rep. In 1960 he opened an advertising agency, Yancy-McGee Advertising, with partner Bill Yancy. After Yancy's death in 1964, the agency name was changed to John McGee Advertising Associates, which remained until recently, one of the city's longest operating agencies. He also opened in 1979 an antique shop, Adam's Apple, Inc., with partner and longtime friend, Jim Heady. As a high school student he was one of the youngest winners in 1944 of a national 4-H award. Accepting the award in Chicago, he met the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt. For 25 years John was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, S.A. Chapter. He served several years till his death as president of the San Antonio Greek-American Society. He was an active member of Laurel Heights United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of Prague OK National Bank and advisory director to First National Bank and Trust in Ada, OK. John had battled Lymphoma Cancer the past 6-½ years. He faced his illness with grace, courage and dignity, as an inspiration to others. His family appreciates the wonderful care from his physicians and nurses. Survivors are sister, Twylah June Horne and husband, Bill; nephew, Bill Horne, Jr. of Ada, OK; nieces, Twylah Jenonne Kessler of Edmond, OK. and Jeannetta Eve Bagwell of Prague, OK. He is also survived by 8 great nieces and 1 great nephew; friend, Jim Heady.
