

Beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Navy Veteran and Scout Leader, John C. Pachecano entered eternal rest at 12:36pm Monday, October 9, 2023, after a valiant and brave battle with illness. His example of love, life and sacrifice will always be remembered, and he will be missed dearly.
He joins the following people he missed so much in heaven: his beloved wife Velia, daughter Sylvia, parents, Reymundo and Anita, sisters: Mary, Susie, Carmen, Teodora; in-laws Maria and Max; brother-in-law Delfino and sisters-in-law Consuelo and Guadalupe.
He is survived by: his sons John Jr., and Mari, Robert and Lisa Medina; and Louis and Cheryl and three grandchildren. On the Pachecano side: Juanita and Gilbert Palomo, Anita Ortero, Rita Franks, Raymond Pachecano, Linda Escueda, Maria Louisa Pachecano and Richard Pachecano. On the Lopez side: Alex and Ana Lopez, Clara Mills, Maria Vasquez, as well as many nephews and nieces and children who he loved very much and cherished.
His childhood began in the fields as a migrant worker. Together with his parents, brothers and sisters they worked fields here in Texas and across the United States. He read comic books, especially Superman and listened to radio dramas like Little Orphan Annie and Buck Rogers. And legend has it he train jumped. He attended Edgewood High School and was in the Art Club and Thespian Club. John was a four year Veteran of the United States Navy. From 1958 to 1962 , he served with the U.S. Seventh Fleet on board the USS Bon Homme Richard CVA-31, an Essex Class aircraft carrier as a Boilerman and Firefighter in the engine room and up on the mast monitoring the smoke stacks for the incoming landing planes. His time in the service took him to basic training in San Diego, San Francisco, and overseas to Hawaii, Japan, Okinawa, India, China, Australia.
Over the years John was many things to many people. He was a Licensed Vocational Nurse and worked at the Children’s Hospital at Downtown Santa Rosa and Santa Rosa Northwest. He was a father of four, a Scout Leader and was someone who would drop everything if you needed him for anything.
He was well known by staff of Health Texas, San Pedro location and the Education Department who ran the numerous balance classes in which he participated.
He loved Superman, Perry Mason, Carol Burnett, Catholic Channel, Cantinflas, Gunsmoke, Matlock, Walker Texas Ranger, Bugs Bunny, Betty Boop, Popeye the Sailorman and pretty much the entire channel line ups on MeTV, H and I, and Inspiration. He loved listening to 107.9 KAHL.
There will be Visitation held Thursday, October 26th beginning at 5:00pm-9:00pm with a Rosary being recited at 7:00pm. at the Treviño Funeral Home on 226 Cupples Road San Antonio TX 78237. On Friday, October 27, 2023, there will be a 12:00 p.m. Funeral Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2610 Perez Street, San Antonio, TX 78207 with burial following Mass at 2:00pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road San Antonio TX 78209.
