John graduated from Schertz-Cibolo High School in 1961 and went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin (HOOK 'EM!) with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism in 1966. He was extremely proud to be a lifetime member of the Texas Ex's Alumni Association. After graduating, he went on to serve his country in the Coast Guard for a number of years. Upon leaving the Coast Guard, he began his career in sales and advertising with the San Antonio Light, Brown Forman and various other food and beverage firms until branching out on his own and opening his pride and joy, Pit Pros, on Nacogdoches Road in San Antonio. At Pit Pros, he enjoyed and excelled in giving personalized service to customers that he considered friends and family. He worked there until the time of his death.
John was survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Diana Schraub, son Christopher Schraub and his wife Josie, Allison Shafir, brother Craig Schraub and step brother Glen Siebold, sister in law Cindi Ferguson and husband Bob Ferguson, and mother-in-law Laura Wyatt.
John also left behind a number of nieces and nephews including Jason and Erich Schraub, Jenny Bailey, Kelley Rullman, Taylor Payne, and Wyatt Ferguson.
He was especially proud of his grandchildren Wesley and Carley Schraub and Ari Shafir as well as his two trusted mates Ziv Shafir and poor Adam Molleda.
John will be truly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Texas Public Radio. www.tpr.org
