John is preceded in death by his son JohnCarlo Hudson Thrush and his father Jimmy Thrush. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 18 years, Sonia Thrush and benevolent daughter Silké Thrush. He is also survived by his mother Diane Thrush; sister Kathryn Thrush and two nephews, Hudson and Walker Franks, all of San Antonio. John also leaves behind a host of dear family members, friends, colleagues, and fellow members of faith at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where he grew up and Saint Padre Pio Catholic Church as he and his family were dedicated Christ followers.
John was born in Denver, Colorado on October 1, 1974. He was a proud graduate of Alamo Heights High School and earned a degree in Real Estate Management in 1997 in San Antonio. John was a fanatical sports fan, a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and loyal Spurs supporter. He enjoyed being with friends and had a true love for the outdoors. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and daughter and spending time at the ranch. He was a avid hunter and excellent marksman. He taught that same love for the outdoors to his daughter, teaching her how to hunt and respect all wildlife. They would often sit in blinds together and just watch all the animal activity around them. They traveled together; some of their favorite trips were skiing the mountains of New Mexico, traveling alongside volleyball tournaments, and making lifelong memories. John could not be a prouder father of his daughter Silké who has a huge heart, is an honor roll student at Smithson Valley High School, plays volleyball and attends confirmation classes. A soft-spoken humble man, John leaves behind a legacy of love and empathy, dedication and devotion, and patience. He was a true servant, often putting his needs aside for others. His entire career was in construction management. He loved meeting new people and speaking to them as he made lots of friends on the job site. John was also quite funny and witty. He could tell a story like no other and would have you rolling with laughter at the end of it. His gentleness and kindness will truly be missed by all who knew him.
The Thrush family is humbled by the overwhelming response they have received by those who have been touched by John’s life. With heartfelt gratitude the family thanks all those who cared for him. The beautiful memories others have of him will live on and never cease to falter. His values will live and carry on through all who knew him.
One thing John always had was hope. Hope for a better day and a better tomorrow. His spirit shall never fade. He will continue to be a light that will never dim. His story is not over.
