

When he was a young teen, the family moved to Des Moines. After high school, he joined his two older brothers and enlisted in the Air Corps.
He took his flight training and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Lt. John C. Webbles flew cover that supported the ground forces at the invasion of Okinawa.
He also flew his P47 Thunderbolt to Tokyo as an escort for General MacArthur. There, on September 2, 1945, on board the USS Missouri docked into Tokyo Bay, Japan formally signed the World War II surrender.
At the end of the War, John returned to Des Moines and enrolled in Drake University. After graduation, along with his bride, Dorothy Ketchum, he moved to San Antonio, Texas.
John went to work at D. Ansley Company in 1950. In later years, he bought the company and retired from there in 1996.
John was President of the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association, member of the Downtown Rotary Club, a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Texas Cavaliers and the San Antonio Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Ketchum; his sons, Jeff and Johnny Webbles; and his siblings, Griffith Webbles, Dean Webbles, and Laura Jane Fowlkes.
John is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Yvonne Hawn Webbles; sister-in-law, Janine Webbles; daughter-in-law, Chrissy Webbles; nieces, Lucy Griffith Andy; Becky Fowlkes; Lellen Lane Rick; Carla Webbles; nephew, Marc Webbles; step-children: Scott Hawn Jackie, Holly Tate John and numerous grandchildren and great nieces and nephews.
John's infectious smile, sparkling blue eyes, and playful sense of humor will be missed by his many friends, golfing buddies, and loved ones.
The Webbles family would like to thank Dr. Mark Isaeff and the third floor Nursing Staff at Chandler Health Care Center for their loving care.
