John Wright, Jr. ("Johnny") was born April 25, 1930, to Lloyd and Regina Wright in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Buena Vista Elementary School near Losoya, Texas and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in 1947. After high school, he worked on his familys dairy farm until he joined the Air Force in 1950, where he served as an aircraft mechanic for 4 years.
After leaving the air force, Johnny worked briefly at Kelly Field and Slick Airways but later went to work for the Air National Guard where he continued his work as an aircraft mechanic for 10 years. He then returned to the family business of running Wright Brothers Farms until his retirement. During that time, he ran a dairy farm, raised cattle for sale and raised peanuts for various nut companies.
He married his wife, Marie Spindler, in 1974 and they were married for 26 years until her death in 2000.
Johnny was a long-time member of El Carmen Catholic Church in Losoya, Texas. He became an altar boy there at the age of twelve and remained active in the parish for almost fifty years, raising money for the parish, donating and barbequing beef for the parish festivals, and offering his time as needed. Later, he was a dedicated parish member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in San Antonio for many years, where he was active in the Mens Club and worked in the parish thrift store. Johnny also was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, for whom he delivered meals two days a week for many years until the age of ninety.
Johnny loved people and socializing, he loved to go or and listen to live music, he loved to dance, and he loved Bob Wills. He was a kind and good-hearted man. Once when coming out of church, Johnny heard an older lady tell her friend that she wished she could find someone to drive her and her husband to their doctors appointments. Even though he didnt know this woman, Johnny told her he would do it and then drove them to all their appointments for the next few years.
Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; Parents, Lloyd and Regina; and his three sisters, Marion Stark, Anna Sievers, And Betty Huegele. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, his "granddaughter" Marie Flores, and his many friends. Everyone will miss him dearly.Click here to view the tribute video for Mr. John Wright
