John L. Zavala, 65, passed away on August 23, 2021 at his San Antonio home surrounded by his family. The only son to Lorenzo and Leona Lopez Zavala, he was born on January 8, 1956.
John was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Henry D. Stewart, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sylvia Stewart Zavala; their children: Leslie, Rudy and John, Jr. (Betty) and grandkids: Cruz, Cortez, Camila and Corazon. John was brother to Josephine Montes; nephew to Patsy Segovia and Margaret Stone; son-in-law to Josephine Stewart and brother-in law to Henry Stewart, Jr., Michael and Debra Sanchez, Paul and Vivian Juarez, Rudy and Brenda Munoz; uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
John was a proud graduate of South San High School class of 1974, where he made many lifelong friends. He started as a carman at Union Pacific Railroad in 1974, where perfected his skills as a welder. He retired after 20 years.
John will be remembered for his love of George Strait music, his work at Neighborhood Ice House and his passion for hunting. He was a fun, funny and generous man. John was a faithful husband, loving father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by many and never forgotten.
Visitation will occur on Tuesday, September 7th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary.
The procession will start at 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8th, from Porter Loring Mortuary with a Mass at 12:00 p.m. at St Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park South.
