Jonathan “Jonah” Tyler Mitchener, a beloved son, brother, and friend passed away on September 10, 2025 in Nashville, TN, at the age of 27. He was born into a career military family on April 1, 1998 in Bamberg in the state of Bavaria in Germany to Melissa and Dr. Timothy Mitchener. He grew up moving around and experiencing the world from an early age and this shaped him into the curious, smart, artistic, and thoughtful person everyone came to know and love.
Jonathan attended elementary school at Cary Elementary School in Cary, NC and then Harford Day School in Bel Air, MD. He then attended middle school at Buckner Fanning Christian School in San Antonio, TX, where he won multiple awards. Jonathan graduated from Antonian College Preparatory High School in San Antonio, Texas, in 2016. There, he was a member of the National Honor Society and won awards for math and science. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Forensic Science from St. Mary's University in 2020, demonstrating a deep commitment to understanding the complexities of science and justice. However, due to COVID-19 in 2020, his path changed.
Throughout his life, Jonathan brought care and precision to all he pursued. Whether he was working as a paralegal and notary public or meticulously detailing, tinting, and wrapping foreign cars, his attention to detail and strong work ethic always stood out. He took pride in doing things right and doing them well.
He was handsome, with striking blue eyes that showed his kindness and a warm, easy smile that made people feel at home. He was funny, kind-hearted, and loyal. He was a good friend and a cherished family member that had a rare gift for making others feel truly seen and heard.
He is predeceased by his four beloved childhood cats, whose memory he often recalled with affection. Jonathan is survived by his parents, Melissa and Dr. (Colonel US Army Retired) Timothy Mitchener; brother, Mark Mitchener; numerous extended family members and friends.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at Porter Loring Mortuary North, located at 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232.
