

Lieutenant Colonel Joseph R. Krawczyk, U.S. Army (Retired), passed away peacefully in his own home on Saturday July 16, 2011, in Denton Texas. His family was at his side when he peacefully passed into Heaven. He was 80 years of age. Joe was born in East Haven, Connecticut on August 10, 1930, to John and Bertha Krawczyk. He joined the Army at the age of 18. He had many duty stations around the world including two tours of duty in Vietnam. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Jacqueline Hilty Krawczyk. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Pogwizd of Connecticut, and Bert Coady of Massachusetts, his three children, Denise Lee Barnes of Denton TX, Joseph R. Krawczyk II of Hong Kong and Nancy Marie Powell of Hallsville TX. Joe has eight grandchildren; Stefanie, Kristen, Kerry, Jason, Adam, Joseph III, Mathew, Kellie, and one very special great-grandson, Brody. Joe retired from military service in San Antonio after 28 years of active duty. He then pursued a second career in real estate and becoming a full time grandfather. In 2005 when his health started to decline he moved to Denton, Texas to be near his oldest daughter, where he met many new friends. He will be dearly missed by many as he was a loving father and beloved grandfather. He will also be missed by many special friends he made late in life, including Juanita, Sam, Deidre, Susan, Heather, Lori, Brittany, and Becca. Visitation will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Deacon Timothy Tate officiating.
