It is with great sadness we note the passing of Josu Javier Romero, 59, of San Antonio Texas on April 12, 2022 after a short illness. Josu was born in San Antonio on February 14, 1963, and attended Jefferson High School in San Antonio. He went on to attend Baylor University and earned his doctorate in Psychology from Southern Illinois University. Josu met Lisa in San Antonio, and they were married in 1993. Josu and Lisa briefly moved to the Northwest where Josu went on to do a fellowship at Stanford before moving back to San Antonio to continue the rest of his career in Neuropsychology. Josu and Lisa had 2 sons, Aaron and Joaquin, both born in San Antonio. In recent years, Josu took a break from private practice to spend more time with the boys and to manage Joaquins club soccer team, which brought him great joy. He cared deeply about all of the boys on the team and worked to make sure they were all taken care of during practices, games and tournaments.
Josu is remembered fondly for his love for his family, particularly his two sons, Aaron and Joaquin, his love of cooking, and his incredible sense of humor. His jokes are legendary, and he always kept his family and friends laughing. With his wife Lisa, he was always the gracious host for family gatherings, making the most of the smoker for delicious brisket, ribs and turkey.
Josu loved to travel. He enjoyed long road trips, particularly to National Parks, as well as trips to Europe where he had a passion for Paris and Versailles. He enjoyed the many trips taken with Lisa, as well as the family trips, particularly the opportunity to take the boys to Yellowstone and Teton National parks, ski trips, and the family trip to Spain. He also enjoyed local trips- to the coast, with lots of fishing, to Fredericksburg or to enjoy the local state parks.
Josu was an avid reader of science fiction and historical books, and enjoyed a wide variety of movies, as well as watching premier league soccer.
Josu was an avid biker, enjoyed hiking and was a runner in his early years. In addition to his talent for cooking, Josu was musically inclined playing the saxophone in high school and teaching himself guitar in later years. He could play almost any tune by ear. He was incredibly kind, thoughtful and a lover of animals, having adopted and rescued several dogs and cats over the years.
Josu is survived by his wife Lisa, his sons Aaron and Joaquin, his mother Mary Helen Garcia, his brother, Orlando Romero, Aunt Oralia Bruno, and many cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
