Joyce Virginia England Presley Meyer, born in Beeville, Texas. August 1, 1924. Died in San Antonio, Texas. October 11, 2016. Survived by one son and daughter, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Adventurous. Caring. Indomitable. Fierce. Fragile.
Joyce was from a ranching/farming background, one her grandfather described as land poor. Raised during the depression, there was food and shelter, handed down clothes, bare bones education, and dusty horizons - Joyce escaped through books. History, biography, literature and its worlds of possibilities. She filled many roles during her long life. Wife, Mother, Aircraft Instrument Technician, World War II Army Air Corps Veteran, volunteer analyst for the International Geodetic Survey, missile test film analyst and returning to school in her 40s to become a nurse. Joyce loved to see and experience the world she read about. Cathedrals to castles, palaces to ruins, rivers to roads, she never lost the joy in immersing herself in the monuments of Man, their cultures and histories. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. Explore the world she did, and "Now, Voyager, sail thou forth, to seek and find." -Walt Whitman
