It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, Joyce Jeanette Schneider on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at her bedside. She was born on May 21, 1933 in Jourdanton, Texas to Viola McCracken Beavers and Jesse Fred Beavers. She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace J. Schneider, her parents, three brothers, two step- brothers and two step-sisters and many wonderful and close friends.
She graduated from Blanco High School in 1951 and attended Hardin-Simmons University. Joyce was employed by Commercial Credit Corporation for 42 years, retiring in 1996. On August 1, 1964 she and Wallace J. Schneider were married in Childers Chapel, Travis Park United Methodist Church, San Antonio, Texas. To this union, their only child was born, a son, Dale Wallace Schneider. They were members of Travis Park UMC for over 35 years before transferring their membership to University United Methodist Church.
She and her husband loved to travel and were fortunate enough to visit many European countries as well as Alaska, Canada, Mexico and throughout the United States. As part of their 50th wedding anniversary celebration, they took their son and family to visit Alaska and Victoria, B.C. to see the beautiful snow-capped mountains, witness the calving of the glaciers and experiencing the thrill of a white water rapids ride.
Joyce loved music, especially the good ol' Southern Gospel Quartet music. She was involved in bringing various professional quartet groups to perform in our city in the late 1950's and '60's.
Joyce was an active member of Texas Chapter, No. 35, Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years holding many offices and appointments in that organization. She enjoyed organizing get-togethers for family and friends, entertaining often in their home until health reasons no longer allowed her to do so. She held membership in in the San Antonio Accordion Society and was a former member of the San Antonio Knife and Fork Club.
She is survived by her beloved son Dale, loving and caring daughter-in-law Yvonne; two precious granddaughters, Olivia Marie and Evelyn Viola Schneider; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 19, 2016 followed by a Funeral Service which will be held at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Porter Loring on McCullough with Rev. Kerry Sharp officiating. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park on Austin Hwy.
Joyce loved her family dearly and nothing pleased her more than being in their presence. She was so proud of their son and the good person that he is, giving thanks to God for all who helped form his life.
