

Juan was born San Antonio, TX to Valente Bernal and Oliva Bernal (nee Gonzalez) on February 6, 1950. He married Shirley Masuoka on September 26, 2024. Juan attended school at Edgewood High School. He worked as a pneudraulic systems mechanic for Kelly and Tinker Air Force Base for 30 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Navy and was awarded National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Juan is preceded in death by his father Valente Bernal; sister Rhonda Bernal, and brother Luke Bernal.
Juan is survived by his spouse Shirley Masuoka; daughters Gina Negron and Denise Aguilar; siblings Rudy Bernal (Adela), Sonja Bernal-Rios, Sandra Benavidez (Rene), and Valerie Bernal; mother Olivia Bernal; 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial with military honors for Juan will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 2:45 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209. A visitation will follow on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A celebration of life with remembrances and prayer will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 7:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238.
